 uncleslackline writes "As Dean turned and walked off toward the far end of the bridge, the other guy took a radio out of his pocket and announces loud enough for me to hear, “ We have a security alert in the center of the bridge. Will all available security, please report to the center of the bridge, Repeat. We have a security alert! All available security please report to the center of the bridge immediately�. I’m thinking to myself, are they really talking about me? Well there’s one way to find out, and I turned to walk away.
The guy with the radio yelled out “you there, stop!� I turned around and asked him "Are you kicking me out?� He replied “I’m not, but the guys with the guns are, and they will be here any second.� I asked him “is that really necessary? What have I done?� He responded “... lets just say that some people don’t want you here". By now we were surrounded by several security guards in golf carts, One says to me “get in the cart� I said “you do not need carts or guns to get me to leave. All you have to do is ask me nicely to leave, and refund my admission� The security guy said “ok, would you please leave now�. I turned around and proceeded toward the exit with the guard in his little cart in tow.
I found Shawn still sitting on the tail gate in the parking lot. He was pissed off, he wanted to stay and argue with the authorities. I suggested that we retreat, and live to fight another day. I suggested that we go visit Larry and Chris in Moab. It took Shawn a few minutes for the suggestion to sink in, “how far out of our way is it� “An hour or so� I replied. “Yeah, I’d be physiqued to do that�, he said.
We broke camp and were on the highway headed west twenty minutes later. Larry showed us around Moab on Sunday. Monday morning we headed back to Southern California.
I know Shawn’s no angel. And I certainly don’t want to go up against Dean. I would like to remind Dean and Shawn that love, acceptance, and forgiveness are the weapons of choice of the peaceful warrior.
I started this piece by saying that it had been a tough year. A lot of the tough parts were left out of this particular story. This whole slackline thing has been a hard road to hoe, but I want to assure everyone including myself that life is sweet out on the razor’s edge. We have had a great time traveling around the country preaching the gospel of slackline and we are truly grateful to all of you out there who are listening! "
