Can someone help me understand this?

http://www.forestry.state.ar.us/communi ... nville.pdf Page 2 under the Standards, rule 1. Does this mean that it would be illegal to setup a slackline line in a public park or public property?

Oye, I misspelled "Precedent", but I guess you understood anyway.

Here's one example: http://forum.slackline.com/viewtopic.php?f=7&t=70

Hey toad
I read it this way; It says you may not damage any tree on public property (which you won't be if you are using protection, on a big enough tree) and that you may not attach or place anything to/on said tree. You're not attaching anything to the tree, just hanging something on it temporarily. You're not going to leave it there when you leave.

yeah, that loophole that you "discovered" falls under placed... And they use the word "or" to link the two things so you can't do either. You definitely can't slack by those rules.

Yes, you are placing the slackline on the tree, but, It's not permanent. I would still say it's illegal. I just can't really see someone saying anything about.

While I think you nailed the spirit of that law on the head - to prevent people from tying ropes, etc around trees and LEAVING them there (which will almost invariably kill the tree, perhaps years later) - they've written the law to encompass attaching anything and everything to the tree for any amount of time.

This is a situation where I think strict ethics are our best friend. In this case, it means not rigging in public areas. A demonstration of such ethic with a strong presentation to the powers-that-be that there is no harm caused to the tree and that strict leave-no-trace standards are adhered to are your best shot. In the meantime, it's probably best to find some private property to slack on (legally of course; no trespassing!), or to travel out of the county.
